“When Gifts Cease”
1 Corinthians 13:9-13

Point 1: Love is everlasting.

Point 2: The sign gifts have ceased.

Definition: Cessationism is the belief that the sign gifts of the apostolic age – visible miracles including speaking in tongues, prophecy, and spontaneous healings – ceased at some point in early church history, most likely coinciding with the death of the Apostles, and are no longer normative in the life of the church.

Evidence that the sign gifts have ceased:

  • History supports cessationism.
  • Modern signs don’t match Biblical evidence.
  • The signs diminished in the Apostolic Age.

Point 3: The “perfect” is the Word of God.
