“Misunderstood Scripture Pt. 2”
Matthew 7:1; John 14:14
Matthew 7:1 – “Judge not, that you be not judged.”
What people think it means: “Christians can never make moral assessments of other people’s behavior.”
What it actually means: “Christians can make reasonable, rational, and biblical judgments. However, we must do so with compassion, mercy, and without hypocrisy.”
John 14:14 – “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
What people think it means: “If I ask for anything I want and end my prayer by saying ‘in Jesus name,’ then God is more inclined to hear me and give me what I want. ”
What it actually means: “God is shaping our prayer habits so that we do not pray selfishly, but rather we pray in a manner that honors Christ’s character, recognizes Christ’s priorities, and maximizes God’s glory.”
